How to load a North America map into Garmin Mobile XT?

I got Garmin Mobile XT installed into my new Nokia N97, but I bought the phone in Malaysia and so it only comes with maps of Malaysia. I will be returning to the US soon and obviously want to load a US map into the device, how can I do that? Couldn't seem to find the proper download on the Garmin website. Also, how can I connect the software to my PC? Thanks in advance :)

1. On the SD Card - look for the "Gardmin" folder. Check if you see a file named GMAPSUPP.IMG. If exists, rename the North America map file as GMAPSUPP2.IMG and copy that to the "Garmin" Folder

2. Now under the Garmin folder, create a file named GMAPSUPP2.UNL.
3. Open the file and key in the North America. map activation code, save the file.
4. Launch Garmin Mobile xt, settings, map sets and you should see the north america maps as well. select the maps as default and use it.

If you have BlackBerry Desktop Manager, the desktop software that came with your device, installed on your desktop computer, then follow these directions:

1. Download the .zip file above.
2. Extract the files from the downloaded zip.
3. Start BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
4. Connect your device and wait until the status at the bottom of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window shows Connected.
5. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
6. In the Application Loader Wizard, click Next until you get to the Device Application Selection screen.
7. In the Device Application Selection screen, click Add.
8. In the Open dialog, navigate to where you extracted the files from the zip, select the iSilo.alx file, then click Open.
9. If after following the previous step, you get the message "No additional applications designed for your device were found", then follow the instructions below about installing an updated version.
10. iSilo should then appear checked in the list in the Device Application Screen. Click Next.
11. The wizard then shows "Completing the Application Loader Wizard". Click Finish to have the Application Loader begin the installation.

installing an updated version
If you already have iSilo™ installed, then you need to remove iSilo™ first before you can install an updated version. To remove iSilo™, follow these steps:

1. Start BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
2. Connect your device and wait until the status at the bottom of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window shows Connected.
3. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
4. In the Application Loader Wizard, click Next until you get to the Device Application Selection screen.
5. In the Device Application Selection screen, unmark the checkbox to the left of iSilo, then click Next.
6. The wizard then shows "Completing the Application Loader Wizard". Click Finish to have the Application Loader remove iSilo™ from your device.
7. Click Close to exit the wizard.
8. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
9. In the Application Loader Wizard, click Next until you get to the Device Application Selection screen.
10. In the Device Application Selection screen, move the selection cursor to iSilo, then click Delete.
11. When asked to confirm that you want to remove the application from the list, click Yes.

After the above steps, you can then following the regular installation instructions above.

Synchronising your contacs between Nokia , PC and Blackberry

Hi Everyone ,

Here I'll discuss how to transfer or synchronise contacts between your Nokia ,PC and Blackberry device.

Requirements :
Nokia PC suite
Blackberry device manager

press the Synch. button

here set the synchronisataion settings

tick contacts
then the button marked in orange

mark the " Do not synchronize automatically "
as follows

choose Direction
then choose-> Only Update Mobile phone Data to The Microsoft Outlook
check the second option to update mobile phone to microsoft outlook only

choose the synchronisation button to start synchronising using your settings above

synchronisation started

Complete
and number of contacs synchronised will be shown

down and to the left in microsoft outlook ,contacts button appear
with all the saved contacts

Successful synchronisation with your Outlook was Done :)

Now Synchronize Your Blackberry
start the Blackberry Desktop manager
and press the Synchronise button as shown

to set-up synchronisation follow the red box

choose--> Address Book

choose Microsoft outlook

choose the type of synchronisation you want
it'll be the third in case of copying your contacts to your blackberry

then click next

congrats !! :D
yOU configured your synch..but you still need to synchronise buddy :)

click as below

choose main menu as Below

click Synchronize

click the marked button
& synchronisation will start

processing

Repeat the process later to update your phone and outlook address book

blackberry takes long time to load after restart ?!!

Why the Blackberry devices takes so long to reboot?

Sometimes my BB Bold takes up to 10 minutes to reboot?? why ?

All blackberries seem to be that way. It's like a computer; it takes time to boot up, verify data, start up programs, etc. I don't know about it being 10 min, but my 8100 takes about 2 minutes to boot after I hard reset it.

When you "reboot", do you mean turning on and off the BB? If you did that, try a hard reset (remove the battery, wait about 30 sec, then reinsert it). Usually that solves software problems and loading times.

Blackberry Desktop Software/Media Manager not loading !!!

Question :

Hello everyone

I have noticed that when I install Desktop Software 4.7 onto my Vista 32bit computer that upon reboot it takes forever to load up to the desktop.

I actually timed it from the first second I saw "loading" or the "Vista progress bar" to the point of me typing in my password til the time I first start seeing things load on my desktop

3minutes +

If I go into services.msc and disable the following:

Cyberlink

roxio upnp renderer 9
roxio upnp server 9
liveshare p2p server 9
roxmediadb9
roxio hard driver watcher 9

And reboot the computer the system takes a lot less time to load up.

So if I were to re enable these and try loading the Media Manager within Desktop Software it acutally does not load.

Am I missing something? Is there another service that I need to start?

It works just fine after a fresh installation but if I disable those features, reboot, and then re enable it does not load at all.

So I'm curious what the work around is? Blackberry said to un install and re install but seriously that takes a long time and is a hassle.

Heres another puzzler for you.

I know I have pictures and videos within my media card (8gig) I can view it right now on my cell phone if I wanted to, it is there.

However when I hook it up to my desktop PC I cannot find them

USB automatically puts a "portable device" under my computer called Blackberry 9530, if I double click it, it gives me 2 options: Media Card or Device Memory. If I click Media Card the only folder is Music which is ok but where are the pictures? There isnt any way I can them thru the pictures using the built in Mass Media; least I cannot find it there; which is why I thought I would use Desktop Manager 4.7 and the Media option but due to the slow computer load times I disabled stuff and it wont load upon re enabling it.

So theres my dilema; any inisghts would be much appreciated; thanks

After re enabling them, make sure you also have "InstallDriver Table Manager (Macrovision Corp)" checked too, that will make Roxio load

Wanna clean your Blackberry's trackball ?!

I read a lot of articles where BlackBerry users complained about their BlackBerry’s trackball (aka pearl – which gave the Pearl its name) doesn’t want to move to a direction anymore.

To be honest, this is something I was afraid of when I first heard RIM will replace the BlackBerry’s trackwheel with a trackball. You won’t believe what happened to me two days ago … My trackball didn’t want to move to right. Well, that’s not good, I thought. After two days of drying everything from moving the ball as fast I could to shaking the Pearl until it got sick. Nothing helped. The ball didn’t want to move right anymore. That’s really bad because there is no way to select an application (address book, options, anything that is not in the left column) and therefor the phone is useless!

Today it was enough! The problem is, I cannot afford to loose that phone for maybe several weeks while it will be repaired. So I searched forums, googled (even yahooed) and found a lot of stuff which had not really an answer to my question. I remembered an article some months ago which mentioned the coloring the of the Pearl’s trackball by coloring the LED beneath the trackball. Finally I realized that removing the pearl’s cover would the best way to get access to its sensor and clean it. By the way, this should work for all BlackBerry devices that carry a trackball around like BlackBerry Pearl, Curve, 8800, 8820 and 8830.

The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be careful here! Like you should be during the whole process as all parts have very small plastic nipple which can break very easy. When the silver plastic ring is removed you will see the inner trackball component which can be removed completely. Before doing this you should carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball component in its position. The trackball component itself can also be carved. For every direction the ball can roll to you’ll find a sensor wheel. Those wheels are mostly carrying some gunk you should clean them from. Once this is done put everything back together to the place the pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring you removed in the first step. Your BlackBerry’s trackball should be back working now.

This is a bit more complicated because you need to disassemble all parts starting with pulling out the battery, unscrewing the cover, and popping out the circuit board. It is pretty though. You just need the right tools

That are lots of parts I know. But that’s it. Here is a high definition image of the BlackBerry Bold’s Trackball:

The trackball itself is the same as in the BlackBerry Pearl, Curve and 88xx Series. Just the metal cover is a bit different. So if you cannot fix this you might want to get one of the replacements below. They should work with the Bold as well.

If even this cleaning does not help you should consider to buy a new trackball for your BlackBerry. It is pretty cheap and you even know how to assemble it already You can get a brand new trackball replacement below via the famous Amazon webshop for just 5-8 bucks.
